About Witham Wombles

We are a group of residents from Witham, Essex, who take part in monthly litter picks across the town. We are passionate about keeping our local environment tidy and litter-free, and many of us also litter pick in our spare time in between scheduled picks. The group, which was founded in January 2016, is entirely voluntary, with many of us involved in Braintree District Council’s Green Heart scheme.

The locations of the litter picks are reviewed to ensure that the areas most in need of attention are being covered - we prioritise open/green spaces over residential areas. Our locations include Whetmead Nature Reserve, Bramble Road and Blackwater Rail Trail. Equipment including pickers, bags, gloves and high vis vests are provided at all litter picks. There is even child-friendly equipment too, so your little ones can get involved and learn more about social responsibility. Volunteering is great for getting people outdoors, and it looks good on your CV too. As well as our ongoing aim to clean up the town, we love to help educate others by going into schools to explain the negative effect that littering has on the environment. You may have seen us out and about with our high vis vests and our purple bags, or maybe you've spotted our posts on social media!
